El Dorado is on the edge of Flint Hills in south central Kansas. It is located 30 miles east-northeast of Wichita and sits at an elevation of 1,342 ft. The summers are around 90°F, with the winters getting down to 20°F. The city was known as an oil town due to the large pools beneath it. To relive the oil boom days, visit the Butler County History Center and the Kansas Oil Museuem. The El Dorado Lake and State Park, which is Kansas’ largest state park, offer camping boating hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
