The city has an elevation of 7,165 ft and sees an average snowfall of 42 inches a year. Winter temperatures often dip into the low teens while the summers are in the mid 70s. Laramie is known for its outdoor activities. To the east of Laramie is Vedauwoo and Happy Jack Recreation Area, which offer hiking, biking, rock climbing, skiing, and camping. To the west of Laramie at over 12,000 ft. is the Snowy Range, which offer many outdoor activities including camping, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and snowmobiling. There are several museums to visit, including the Territorial Prison and the Children’s Nature Center.
