Signal Hill, CA

Signal Hill is small city in the southern region of Los Angeles County and is completely surrounded by the City of Long Beach. Native Americans and early Spanish explorers used the hill as a look out. In the 20th century, Signal Hill was one of the most productive oil fields in the world. It was covered with over 100 oil wells and earned the name of “Porcupine Hill.” By the 1980s, the oil production was declining and the oil wells were replaced with residential and commercial developments. On average, the city sees 280 days of sun in Signal Hill, with the summer temperatures in the mid 70s and winters in the mid 50s. Outdoor activities include frequenting the beach and the mountains.
