  • Property management
  • Stormwater management
  • Stream and channel restoration
  • Water and wastewater permitting and design

A city located just southwest of the former industrial site had been prone to flooding after heavy precipitation events. Trihydro was contracted to perform the modeling, analysis, and engineering design to provide  a Stormwater Management and Flood Control Plan for the site. The plan addresses current site conditions, conditions and procedures to follow during remediation activities, and provides guidance for land use, stormwater control infrastructure, and an overall conceptual stormwater management approac for the site. The main goals of the plan were:

  • To reduce the potential for, and severity of flooding
  • To reduce stormwater contamination from remediation activities
  • To reduce operation and maintenance costs related to stormwater management

The major components of the plan were:

  • Analysis of existing stormwater control infrastructure including HEC-RAS and TR-20 modeling
  • Analysis of existing site performance during different major storms, including local flooding and floodplain storage
  • Analysis of existing and proposed land use
  • Conceptual plan for stormwater management after redevelopment
  • Discussion of actions that the city may take outside of the site to reduce the severity of flooding

There are many future uses proposed for land in the former industrial site. Approximately 145 acres are  undergoing redevelopment into two business parks while 70 acres are proposed for use as a Corrective Action Management Unit. The city may purchase a portion of the site and modify an existing wastewater treatment plant to add to their municipal water treatment capacity. The remainder of the site is currently leased to another company and is being used as a petroleum pipeline breakout facility.

In addition to the generation of the plan, Trihydro has also designed and supervised construction of detention basins, rehabilitation of existing channels, and is currently designing the storm sewers for the first business park.
