2000-Mile Fitness Challenge
The goal of the "Challenge" is to foster more active and healthy lifestyles. Trihydro Corporation has sponsored the Challenge annually since 2000 for employees, friends, friends of employees, community members, and friends of community members. In other words, the Fitness Challenge is open to everyone. The program has evolved and incorporated suggestions from participants every year since 2000, when it was a relatively straightforward "2000-mile challenge," to its current version. These suggestions, including the table of "
Equivalent Miles" and 4000-mile "Ultra Challenge," allow participants to tailor the program to their own needs, physical capabilities, and goals. In the program, participants define and have a year to meet their fitness goals. Proceeds from the Trihydro Fitness Challenge benefit the following charities: American Cancer Society; Habitat for Humanity; SAFE House; Susan G. Komen/Race for the Cure; Interfaith/Good Samaritan; and ARK Regional Services.
Rules:
- All miles must be self-propelled.
- Goals must be achieved in the current calendar year.
- Miles can be accumulated anywhere you train or compete (including indoor trainers).
- It is recognized that bicycle road riding miles accumulate more rapidly than those for other activities. For this reason, the Trihydro Fitness Challenge will continue to offer the optional table of Equivalent Miles for other activities such as running, swimming, and circuit training. You may use Equivalent Miles at your discretion.
- When you sign up, select your program (Ultra – 4000 miles, Tough - 2000 miles, Off The Couch - 1000 miles, or Senior - participant-defined mileage goal) and define your fitness goal.
- Be honest in tracking your goals and miles!
Personalize Your Challenge (Options)
- Opt out of the "Starter" t-shirt by checking the "No t-shirt, thanks!" box on the Registration Form. This option is offered in response to suggestions some of you have made to ensure that more money is left over at the end of the year for your charities (and to help out your closet space). If you’d prefer to opt out of the Finisher’s jacket also, just let us know.
- In addition to the mileage goal, each participant must define a personal goal to achieve within the current calendar year. Goals can include participating in a 5K Run/Walk or an Ironman triathlon, running a set number of miles over the course of the year/month/week, weight loss, lowered blood pressure, walking the dog every day, etc. This is your program for your fitness; tailor it to your goals and needs.
- For those of you who would like to participate in the Senior Challenge, write a mileage goal that best fits your lifetime fitness goals and your abilities on the registration form. ANY mileage goal is acceptable. Remember, this is YOUR fitness challenge!
Mileage
All miles must be accumulated within the calendar year. Activities may include, but are not limited to road biking, mountain biking, running, hiking, swimming, circuit training, paddling, kayaking, skating, skiing, snowshoeing, climbing, skateboarding, stationary cycling, treadmill, racquetball court miles, jumping rope, etc. See our
Equivalent Miles table to see how these activities translate into "Challenge miles."
Keeping Track
You will keep track of your own miles. A
downloadable example log file is available here. Then each month you will submit, by e-mail, a summary of your miles. Once you've achieved your mileage goal and accomplished your personal fitness goal, please notify us.
What do you get?
- A stylish, long-sleeved t-shirt just for signing up.
- Once you’ve successfully completed the Challenge, you will get a Finisher’s year pin to place on your Finisher’s jacket. If this is your first year to complete the Trihydro Challenge, you will also get an embroidered full-zip fleece jacket on which to place your Finisher’s year pin.
