Trihydro Participates in the 8th Annual Wyoming Buddy Walk
(LARAMIE, WYOMING) --- The 8th Annual Wyoming Buddy Walk took place in Laramie, Wyoming on September 27. This event follows in the footsteps of the original Buddy Walk, which took place in New Work City in 1995. The Buddy Walk is a nationwide event that promotes acceptance and inclusion for people with Down syndrome and raises money for this cause.
The Wyoming Buddy Walk is an event-filled day that gives families, caregivers, and friends the chance to share stories and raise money for the Wyoming Down Syndrome Association. The goal of the Wyoming Buddy Walk is to celebrate the lives of Wyoming citizens with Down syndrome, promote awareness of what people with Down syndrome can accomplish, and to raise money to support the projects of the Wyoming Down Syndrome Association.
Trihydro has been participating in the Wyoming Buddy Walk since its inception in 2001. This year Trihydro was represented by over 20 employees and their family members.
Trihydro has also played a central role in assisting the Wyoming Buddy Walk with sponsorship and support of the event. Trihydro is one of the founding members of the Buddy Walk Business Matching Program which was initiated in 2007. This year, Trihydro along with 15 other businesses have agreed to match up to $30,500 in pledges. Funds are raised through business sponsorships, families, individuals who collect pledges, and any leftover funds from the registration fees.
About the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) Buddy Walk:
The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Today, the Buddy Walk program is supported nationally by NDSS and organized at the local level by parent support groups, schools, and other organizations and individuals. Over the past thirteen years, the Buddy Walk program has grown from 17 walks to more than 275 expected in 2008 across the country and around the world. Last year alone, more than 230,000 people participated in a Buddy Walk! They raised more than $9.5 million (a 46.2% increase from 2006) to benefit national education, research and advocacy initiatives, as well as local programs. These funds enable NDSS and local groups to offer services that support and enhance the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
