Trihydro Headquarters and West Wing Office Earn EPA ENERGY STAR Certification
Trihydro headquarters is recognized for “Superior Energy Performance” for 7th consecutive year
Trihydro Corporation's headquarters and West Wing office earned ENERGY STAR certifications in 2011 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Commercial buildings that earn EPA's ENERGY STAR use 35 percent less energy and generate 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than similar buildings across the nation. This marks the first year Trihydro's West Wing office has received the certification and the seventh consecutive year for Trihydro's main headquarters building. Both offices are located in Laramie, WY.
In 2005, Trihydro headquarters was named Wyoming's first privately-owned building to receive EPA's prestigious ENERGY STAR label. The 23,200 square foot headquarters building has many eco-conscious features including carpet tiles composed of 100% recycled plastic, a programmable HVAC system to allow flexible heating and air conditioning, flooring made from the bark of cork trees, plumbing features that promote water conservation, break room cabinets made of compressed sunflower seed bi-products, and 360-degree natural lighting.
The West Wing office, which was completed in 2009, also has many similar green features, as well as a captured heat recirculation system. The design and construction of this 10,000 square foot building was coordinated via a partnership between Trihydro and the City of Laramie, and financed under a development agreement with the Wyoming Business Council, along with support from the Laramie Economic Development Corporation. The long-term lease income from Trihydro's West Wing office is contributed to the City's economic development fund to further regional economic development.
EPA's ENERGY STAR energy performance scale helps Trihydro assess how efficiently our buildings use energy relative to similar buildings nationwide. A building that scores a 75 or higher on EPA's 1-100 scale may be eligible for ENERGY STAR certification. “Improving the energy efficiency of our nation's buildings is critical to protecting our environment, “ said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations like Trihydro are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA's ENERGY STAR.”

About ENERGY STAR
ENERGY STAR was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the ENERGY STAR label can be found on more than 60 different kinds of products as well as new homes and commercial and industrial buildings that meet strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the EPA. Last year alone, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved $18 billion on their energy bills while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 34 million vehicles.
