History and Heritage

Growing and expanding, yet never forgetting our Wyoming roots.

In 1984, Laramie, Wyoming, became home to Trihydro, a small engineering and environmental consulting firm started by a geologist and chemist with a passion for water. The “Tri” symbolizes the company’s three initial water-related offerings: geology, chemistry, and engineering.

Our success during the early years—built on client relationships and outstanding services—propelled growth, in the form of both humans and machines, which included the purchase of a few computers with 5MB hard drives and a 1982 Subaru hatchback nicknamed the “Chem-Pond-Mobile.” During the 1980s, an era of constantly growing and evolving environmental regulations, we were able to adapt quickly to client needs and regulatory requirements.

By 1990, we expanded to 30 employees and a new headquarters building. Over the next 15 years, our growth continued. We garnered our first international contracts in Belize and China and opened offices along the West Coast. In 2004, we moved into a state-of-the-art headquarters building in Laramie, which, in 2005 and each year since, received the prestigious United States Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star label. In 2008, we became a Founding Reporter of The Climate Registry. On December 14, 2009, we celebrated our 25th anniversary.

Our heritage is the foundation upon which we continue to build, and why we’ve grown into one of the top engineering firms in the country. Our core values have always included safety, honesty, quality, and responsiveness, and our goal is to continue strengthening these values. There are plenty of reasons why over 90 percent of our business comes from repeat clients—almost 20 percent higher than the industry average.
