Trihydro Vice President Invited to Partake in a Panel of Four Experts to Discuss the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants for Benzene Waste Operations

(LARAMIE, WYOMING)---Mr. Calvin Niss, Vice President of Trihydro Corporation, was invited by th e U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to participate in a workgroup to discuss the regulation the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) for benzene waste operations (BWON) regulation. The existing regulation was promulgated on March 7, 1990, under the authority of the Clean Air Act (CAA). The BWON regulation addresses wastewater and slop oil, and focuses on the identification and quantification of benzene waste emissions sources in operating refineries. This complex rule has been interpreted differently between various refineries, leading to considerable enforcement exposure to the regulated community. Mr. Niss, along with three other industry representatives, was invited by EPA to meet in Denver , Colorado , to provide input as to how to address BWON issues that need further clarification as part of the 10-year technical review process. Developed through the discussions in the meeting, the proposed amendments to the BWON regulations will be incorporated into the residual risk rule that will be published for review and comment in late September 2007. The final rule will be published in October 2008.
