Vapor Intrusion
Trihydro is directly involved in cutting-edge research in the rapidly-developing vapor intrusion field.
Our vapor intrusion experience includes large and small industrial sites, residential neighborhoods, petroleum hydrocarbon, and chlorinated solvent contaminants. We have conducted original research in field methods, performed third-party reviews for liability evaluation, and worked with state regulators in developing their vapor intrusion guidance documents.
Trihydro has partnered with nationally recognized vapor intrusion experts to conduct research in the areas of representative soil gas sample collection; temporal variation of oxygen depletion under structures over contaminant plumes, and low cost mitigation systems. These research topics specifically target unresolved questions related to best practices currently recommended by many state vapor intrusion guidance documents.
Integration with Risk Assessment
Vapor intrusion investigations are nearly always conducted with risk assessment in mind. The first step in risk assessment is evaluating data usability. At Trihydro, our Vapor Intrusion Team is an integral part of our Risk Assessment Services Team. From field design to scrutiny of laboratory analytical process to evaluating multiple lines of evidence, we bring a full suite of services to our clients.
Accurately assessing vapor intrusion to indoor air demands technical sophistication and detailed knowledge of evolving guidance and regulation. Trihydro’s Vapor Intrusion Team maintains an up-to-date library and knowledge base of individual state and federal guidance specific to vapor intrusion. Our staff has experience with all aspects of vapor intrusion studies: from designing field-sampling programs, conducting landowner surveys and installing field instrumentation, to interpreting complex data sets, negotiating with state and federal regulators and expert witness testimony.
Expert Partnerships
Our capacity to staff large vapor intrusion assessment jobs is leveraged through partnerships with expert subcontractors on an as-needed basis. These partnerships provide enormous flexibility to our full time field staff, risk assessors, forensic experts, data validators and fate and transport modelers to quickly mobilize for even very large, complex, sensitive projects.
Understanding Liability
Vapor intrusion liability can be a key component of total site liability. For an individual site, Trihydro’s approach to liability assessment is holistic; we assess the spectrum of potentially significant liabilities while keeping our client’s business goals at the center of attention. For clients with multiple properties to manage, our portfolio review service can identify liabilities and estimate their relative importance, implement cost-effective mitigation measures and, as needed, negotiate favorable resolutions with regulators in this climate of rapidly changing state and Federal guidance. |
