Laboratory and Field Analytical Data Consolidation and Management

Superfund Site
Montana

When data inconsistencies hindered cleanup progress at a Superfund site, Trihydro developed a migration plan and consolidated laboratory and field analytical data into Enflection, a central data management and document sharing system.

At a site managed under the Montana State Superfund program, laboratory and field analytical data were maintained in two separate databases by two different parties. Although similar, the databases were not identical, and inconsistencies undermined confidence in the completeness and accuracy of the data. Because each party’s system was not easily accessible to the other, identifying and resolving discrepancies proved difficult, delaying cleanup progress.

To address these challenges, the client selected Trihydro to consolidate project data and documents within EnFlection, the firm’s data management platform. EnFlection provides standardized laboratory data loading tools and collaborative validation, query, and spatial analysis features.

Trihydro evaluated both datasets and developed a migration plan that was reviewed and approved by both parties. The plan consolidated records accurately, avoiding data loss or duplication. Scripted migration methodologies were used to load the final vetted dataset into a SQL Server-based structure, document key decisions, and allow rollback to earlier stages if discrepancies were identified. Using Trihydro’s data query tools, both parties reviewed and confirmed the accuracy of the merged dataset.

As part of the project, Trihydro also delivered classroom-style training to the client and stakeholders. Today, the data resides within EnFlection, supported by Trihydro’s ongoing technical assistance.

By merging the two databases into one system with input from both parties, Trihydro improved the accuracy and reliability of key project data. The consolidated system increased confidence in the information and allowed stakeholders to efficiently access, analyze, and report on data to support project decisions.
