0.15-MGD Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion
Travis County Water Control and Improvement District Point Venture needed additional wastewater treatment capacity and infrastructure improvements while maintaining service during construction. Trihydro designed a new 0.15-million-gallon-per-day (MGD) complete-mix activated sludge facility, which is now in service, along with renovations to the existing 0.10-MGD plant and improvements to the supporting collection system. The existing plant is currently offline but can be returned to service as future capacity needs increase, with the completed improvements positioning the District to make the remaining upgrades more easily.
Trihydro designed improvements across the treatment and collection systems, including influent piping, lift stations, headworks, aeration, clarification, filtration, disinfection, effluent transfer, chemical feed, and sludge handling. The project also incorporated electrical, instrumentation, and site improvements, allowing multiple infrastructure needs to be addressed as part of a coordinated wastewater improvement program.
Maintaining Wastewater Treatment Operations During Construction
Trihydro supported the approximately $11 million construction program through construction administration, resident project representation, full-time inspection, and startup and commissioning. Construction was carefully sequenced to maintain wastewater service while new facilities were built and existing infrastructure was modified.
Expanding Reclaimed Water Use
The expanded wastewater treatment facility produces Type I reclaimed water for irrigation at the Point Venture Golf Course, landscaping, and plant equipment washdown. The improvements give the District a beneficial use for treated wastewater rather than discharging it to Lake Travis.
