Sanitary Sewer Trunk Line Design

Laramie Regional Airport
Laramie, Wyoming

Services Provided

The land that the Laramie Regional Airport (LRA) occupies, along with the University of Wyoming (UW) and the Laramie Country Club, were incorporated into the City of Laramie (City) property in November 2004. Prior to design of the LRA sanitary sewer trunk line, Trihydro prepared a sanitary sewer study for West Laramie to determine anticipated sewer loadings over a 20 year period from the LRA’s and the UW’s future developments and associated affects to the City’s existing system. The City determined from that study that the LRA and UW could connect to the City’s system. The LRA was awarded nearly $2 million from the Wyoming Business Ready Community Program to extend its sanitary sewer system and connect it to the City’s system.

Trihydro prepared a feasibility study of alternative trunk line alignments with associated construction cost estimates. After the preferred alignment was selected, Trihydro surveyors collected topography and feature data that was then used to prepare final design plans and construction documents. Design included the 12-inch sanitary sewer trunk line, 8-inch sanitary sewer collector line, a lift station at the LRA, two water canal crossings, a bore crossing under State Highway 130, and preparation of easements. Trihydro also acquired two permits for this project including a permit to construct from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality/Water Quality Division, and a utility permit from the Wyoming Department of Transportation to bore under the Highway 130 right-of-way.

Trihydro provided construction administration, monitoring, and reporting to achieve a successful project, which was completed on time and under budget. With the remaining budget, the LRA was able to surface an interior roadway in their campus and provide an additional sanitary sewer service to a hanger building.

After the project was completed, the Wyoming National Guard was able to relocate to a new and larger facility and connect to the new sanitary sewer trunk. Other businesses have also located in the LRA’s business park, which contribute to Laramie’s healthy economy. This project will continue to benefit the Laramie community for years to come by allowing further business growth in the area.
