My passion for all things air-related began in my youth, when I spent my days chasing fresh air in the great outdoors.
I grew up in Minnesota and spent a period of time outfitting canoe trips in the Boundary Waters, among a wealth of other wilderness activities. When it was time for college, I pursued a degree in geology, knowing it would keep me close to the fresh air and the great outdoors.
When at work, I am equally passionate about air quality, but in a different way. In the early '90s, when Benzene Waste Operations NESHAP (BWON) was promulgated, Trihydro was asked to assist one of our refinery clients with implementing the new air quality rule. I knew that this complex Federal regulation, which focuses on benzene waste, would be a challenge. However, the challenge of intimately learning the regulation excited me and I took it upon myself to become an expert in BWON. Since that initial project, I have managed and performed more than 50 BWON compliance projects for refineries and chemical plants.
BWON was just the beginning. Recognizing the growing need for an air quality group with specialized expertise, Trihydro formed an Air and Process Business Unit, which I currently lead, to focus entirely on air-related projects. We now work on projects ranging from leak detection and repair (LDAR) to greenhouse gas (GHG) management. Helping build the air practice at Trihydro has been my biggest career achievement. What started with just three employees has grown into a team of almost 100 technicians, scientists, and engineers who are highly regarded by air compliance professionals in the industry and regulatory agencies.
These days, I still enjoy my summers on the water boating and fishing. In the winter, I like to spend as much time as possible at my second home in Winter Park, Colorado alpine skiing.
